Lucas: "The special edition, that's the one I wanted out there. The other movie, it's on VHS, if anybody wants it. ... I'm not going to spend the, we're talking millions of dollars here, the money and the time to refurbish that, because to me, it doesn't really exist anymore. It's like this is the movie I wanted it to be, and I'm sorry you saw half a completed film and fell in love with it. But I want it to be the way I want it to be. I'm the one who has to take responsibility for it. I'm the one who has to have everybody throw rocks at me all the time, so at least if they're going to throw rocks at me, they're going to throw rocks at me for something I love rather than something I think is not very good, or at least something I think is not finished."

Dude, I just want the original trilogy I owned on VHS (you know, the one you ALREADY digitally remastered) on a less destructable media. Hell, there were laserdiscs of the original trilogy (we had ROTJ), even that level of quality would suffice for a large portion of the fans.

Does anyone actually prefer the CGI he added in with the special editions over the classic movies? What's next, Jar-Jar tripping over a slumbering imperial guard and chopping of Darth Vader's hand instead of Luke?

i totally agree. i like the special editions, but i like the original versions as well and it would be nice to be able to have both sets on dvd. really, if you can't get the movies done the way you like them the first time, is that our fault? nope. so cry me a river, george.

I liked the ones that were the first re-releases. Not the ones that have all the CGI crap, but the ones with clearer audio and a cleaner picture. It's the re-issued series that has the ring coming out of the Death Star explosion.

LOL, you didn't hear? JarJar does do that in the new release! =p

No, seriously, I completely agree, the changes are crap. At this point I'd almost settle for finding a high quality version of the original on one of the p2p networks, I'm sure somebody has to have digitized it. I'd probably buy the new DVD's as well, just because I typically don't pirate anything, so I'd think of it as just another copy of what I legally own.

But really, George Lucas has got to be the biggest sellout in our lifetimes, it's so infuriating what he's done for money.

Lucas is a self-absorbed idiot

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the Phantom Edit?
