The new Quasi and Built to Spill albums (When the Going gets Dark and You In Reverse respectively) albums rock, I picked both of them up today in celebration of starting my internship. Amusingly enough, Sam from Quasi plays on one of the tracks in the Built to Spill album. :D
Started the internship today. It's pretty neat, though I gather that this week will mostly be consumed with orientation type stuff. They also gave me my plane tickets for the intern retreat today. Three sunny days in exciting Chippewa Falls, WI in August. Joy.
The other three interns I share my office with are all software types. Two CSE kids from UW, and one EE guy from Texas A&M. The TAMU guy started two weeks ago, and was working diligently while the rest of us blundered around without anything to do for most of the day.
Ah well. I start my first project tomorrow afternoon. It's pretty much just verification work, but it'll get me started with using the tools that I'll be doing design with later this summer.
"You In Reverse" is totally awesome. You must listen to it. Now.
DO IT!

wear a hat inside
walk on the grass on their campus
call him a T-sip (the derogatory term for their arch rival- University of Texas)
You could tell aggie jokes, but they know all of them already.
Ask if his mascot was a rip off of Yosemite Sam (Actually Texas Tech's mascot- where I went)

Actually, it's a beautiful area, for nature-lovers and outdoorsy-types. If nothing else, it's at least peaceful. :-) If you have a chance, take the Leinenkugel's brewery tour. It's the "good" local/regional brew.

I'm pretty sure the brewery tour is on our list. I'll try to keep my Northwestern beer snob attitude to a minimum while there. ;)

Just remember, Wisconsin is full of Germans and Belgians. :-) There are quite a few great micro-breweries. Leinies is the less micro-brewish place, and the beer that a lot of midwesterners buy as their "everyday" beer.

Unfortunate. I never heard of them while living in Cleveland, but that's probably due to Great Lakes Brewing co (http://www.greatlakesbrewing.com/) dominating the area. Great Lakes is pretty decent, but I ached for the variety we have out here.

In Wisconsin proper, there's the New Glarus Brewing Co. in New Glarus. Excellent variety, and some non-beer fruity things too. Mmm. Grey's in Milwaukee has an great Oatmeal Stout. Capitol Brewery in Madison is reputed to be pretty decent. Some of these can be picked up in liquor stores and gas stations throughout the state.

Thanks for the tips on the microbrews, I'll keep my eyes open for them!
