Yeah...

He was admitted to harborview on 12/29 with alcoholic hepatitis, went home on 1/5 and appeared to be getting a little better, but had seizures a couple of nights ago and died at 2:30 am today (rising levels of ammonia in his body, I think...)

wow. it sounds like it just pushed his liver too far, and things happened really quickly, so even though hepatic encephalopathy (the seizures and high ammonia thing points to that) is maneagable, it might have just been too quick and unexpected. was he a relatively young and healthy (aside from the alcohol) guy?
