So there was a message on my machine today, a woman who just left her number and asked me to call her. I called her when I got home, here's how our conversation went:

Her: "Hello?"
Me: "Hi, this is Brian Ferguson... someone left a message on my machine to call this num..."
Her: "Wait a second"
(background noise goes down)
Her: "I had to turn down my TV" (giggle)
Me: "Uh yeah... so what's this about?"
Her: "Money, hon. I don't know when we'll be able to get the money, things are tight now. I was wondering, do you take credit cards?
Me: "Uhh... no I'm not a business or anything..."
Her: "Uh okay, then we're just going to have to wait until I can get him down to social security and maybe get some money from them."
Me: "Um, nobody owes me any money..."
Her: "Yeah I know, but he just lost his job and we don't really have anything saved"
Me: "..."
Her: "And you know someone has to stay in the house with me all the time, I-we've been having problems lately, physical problems you know."
Me: "Uh... okay."
Her: "Could I get your number again? 'cause this time I had to go looking through the phonebook for it and (giggle) I don't want to do that again"
Me: "I don't think that's really necessary, no one owes me any money"
Her: "But could I just get your number?"
Me: "All right" (Tell her my number, repeating it several times)
Her: "Okay I'll get my stuff straightened out and if I need to I'll call you back."
Me: "Look, I don't know who you are, and no one owes me anything, so don't worry about it"
