Time to change banks...

I've been with my bank for almost 8 years. Things have generally been pretty good between us, until now. My debit card is expiring in ~6 months, and they just sent me a replacement. However, the new card has an RFID tag in it. Irritated by this, I called them up and asked for a non-RFID card.

They only do RFID cards now. They are losing my business over this.

Yeah, they're quite new, and most banks are staying away. There are lots of security problems with these itty bitty chips...

If you're looking for a new bank, I've been with US Bank since I was little, and they've gone out of their way many times to help me (they did what no other bank would do - deal with my mom co-signing my loan on the other side of the country). And I just got a new bank card - it doesn't have RFID.

I am indeed looking for a new bank, and US bank is probably who I'll go with. They have a branch on campus, just a short walk from the EE building. Not to mention lots of ATMs for when the branch isn't open...

Can you just microwave the card for 2 seconds? That ought to be more than enough to fry the RFID chip, but I'm not sure what it'd do to the magnetic strip.

1 - I don't have a microwave.
2 - I've already chopped the card up into little bits. :D
3 - I'd rather support a bank that doesn't require RFID cards.

yeah, we're with Key, and we have the chip-cards now. Brian actually likes it - the Severence Movie theatre has a reader for it. So he just waves his card at the ticket counter, and we're in - no need to sign or anything. Um... it disturbs me.

why pay by touch when you already pay by swipe? how much time are you really saving? i think it's a case of people going ga-ga over technology (they don't understand) for the sake of technology.

and i would agree, i wouldn't mind an rfid card that was pre-paid or something but i would never want one that was connected to my bank account.

I considered that briefly, but decided against it for a few reasons:

1) I've been using the same wallet for over 10 years, I don't want to wrap it in aluminum foil and duct tape.
2) It only provides a modicum of protection when the card is inside the wallet.
3) I don't want a bank that *only* gives out RFID cards to keep my business.

But yeah, thanks for the suggestion. :D
