I made a circuit that allows people to use a particular kind of chemical sensor for about 10% of the cost of the current method (~$300 instead of ~$4000). It gives better performance, too.
Technically a refractometer is a device that measures the refractive index of a material. That's the underlying physical property being measured by our sensor, but it can be modified such that it reports the concentration of a given chemical of interest.
