So I went and saw Fellowship of the Ring at a 12:01 showing last night/ this morning. I'll spare you the details (they're certainly available elsewhere), but I thought the film was fairly good. Excellent scenery, reasonably good acting, and not too much inane humor. Ursula seems to hate the idea of seeing it, but I think that may be due to a greater level of contact with the commercialization of the film. I had seen one trailer (from the web), and I think a poster. Of course I've read the books, if you haven't, do so. Do it now. I mean it. NOW!

Here's a few things we learned from this movie:

1 - Only bad guys use shields. Our heros carry them for looks, but *never* use them.

2 - If you're using a bow at point-blank range, nothing can ever harm you.

3 - Good guys never miss with their bows, but bad guys virtually always do, and stop shooting during tense moments when the characters need to concentrate. They're so accomidating, it's a pity they're servants of Sauron, or I'd have them over for dinner.

I have a couple of other gripes, but I've all ready talked them to death. Maybe later if people express interest (not likely).

So I didn't sleep a whole heck of a lot last night, but that's OK. I took a nap yesterday afternoon for about 4 hours, then got 2 more after the movie. I seem to be doing remarkably well for such little sleep, but yeah.

I'm going to pick up Ursula in a few moments, she's staying here for the night, and flying out god-awfully early tomorrow morning. It's cool though, because next month she'll be staying here for a week =)
