So I had my second interview for the Seattle Public Schools network admin position, and it seemed to go quite well. I have various levels of paperwork to dig through, a background check, and various other things, but I'll probably get the job. 16 hours a week isn't a lot, but it gets me started at least...
The school I've been assigned to is about a 25-60 minute drive depending on traffic. Apparently there's a back road I can take near the ship canals... I'll have to check that out for when rush hour is in full swing. Might come in handy indeed. Anyway, it's an elementary school. Mostly imacs, with a win 2k server running everything, and a personal PC on each teacher's desk. It's all very locked down, and seems to be running fairly well. I'll probably have to re-learn perl for this, as all of the scripts that teachers use to get their class information from the district are written in it, and there are a few bugs.
In other news, I finally got Ascendancy running on my system, with the help of a lovely program called DOSBox, which is essentially an x86 emulator with DOS. The emulation isn't the important thing though, it's the DOS environment that this game requires. Anyway DOSBox is a bit slow, and the sound does some bizarre things every now and then, but it works.

I was looking at a couple of openings at schools around here, and yes - they do seem to have quite a bit of paperwork.
